AUKUS AUC – Technological Leadership Through Trade Compliance

SNC Mission Systems UK is proud to be the first UK company to become a member of the AUKUS Authorised User Community (AUC).

Helping to keep the UK’s defence and national security on the technological front-foot – and that of its allies – has always been important to us. Being an AUC member helps us to increase our level of collaboration, whilst reducing the time and costs involved when working with other accredited members involved in defence trade within and between Australia the UK, and the United States. This is because as a member we are eligible to use ITAR Exemption 126.7, the UK AUKUS Nations Open General Licence, and the AUS AUKUS exemption.

If you have a partnership idea includes defence trade with Australia or the United States please send an email to: enquiries@snc-ms.uk.

Senior Leadership

Hywel Baker

Hywel Baker

Managing Director - SNC Mission Systems UK

Hywel founded SNC Mission Systems UK as the UK arm of SNC in 2019.

Through his vision, commitment, and strategic leadership, Hywel has taken MS UK from concept to a nationally recognised defence enterprise. His leadership has brought SNC’s investment to South Wales, creating a sovereign manufacturing capability vital to the UK’s defence and national security.

Hywel is a keen advocate of a whole of society approach with veterans and reservists’ recruitment; supporting military families; and partnering with armed forces charities to earn the company a Gold Award holder for the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme. Many specialised roles have been created, with a strong focus on transitioning workers from legacy industries to defence and security careers.

Under Hywel’s leadership the systems developed and supported by SNC MS UK have played a direct role in enhancing the UK’s operational capabilities in recent conflicts. He has delivered resilient, domestically manufactured solutions that increase responsiveness and reduce reliance on non-allied suppliers, critical factors in the current geopolitical environment.

In recognition of his contribution to the manufacturing sector, Hywel was appointed to the Board of Manufacturing Wales where he champions industrial growth, skills development, and the integration of small to medium enterprises into defence supply chains. His leadership has helped position Wales as a modern hub for high-tech defence production and driving cross-regional economic expansion.

Beyond South Wales, Hywel has spearheaded SNC MS UK’s diversification into key strategic locations across the UK, strengthening sovereign capability and enhancing collaboration with defence customers and partners across the four nations.

Social Value

Social Value is the value that people place on the changes they experience in their lives.

At SNC MS UK we are committed to making decisions that recognise this broader definition of value – decisions that increase equality, improve wellbeing, and enhance environmental sustainability, across the board. We champion local employment, sustainability, and equality, and by doing so hope to make positive differences for everyone’s benefit, today and in the future.

Our approach follows the Principles of Social Value, which provide the foundation for how we assess, report, and maximise our social contribution. These principles, based on generally accepted social accounting practices, help us to demonstrate accountability to our stakeholders and ensure that the benefits we create are meaningful, measurable, and lasting.

We measure our social value successes as much by our customer service, quality standards and technical excellence as we do by the positive impact we have on the people who work for and with us, our local communities, and the environment.

As a proud employer of local talent, we place a high importance on individual and team development and growth for the current and future UK defence and security workforce.

We believe in sustainability. We work hard to ensure that our operations and practices are environmentally responsible, and we strive to continuously improve what we are doing to preserve the planet.

Equality is very important to us. We are dedicated to providing an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone feels valued and given the same opportunities to succeed. Our commitment to fairness and respect applies to both our staff and the communities we serve.

Supporting those who protect us

At SNC MS UK we are honoured to be part of the mission to protect those who protect us. Beyond our products and services, we support them  in a number of other ways too.

As a Gold Award holder of the Armed Forces Covenant we are committed to supporting veterans, reservists and their families with fair opportunities, meaningful careers and a genuinely inclusive environment.

We sponsor activities that focus on the health and wellbeing of serving Armed Forces personnel, such as:

The UK Armed Forces Inter-Services Snow Sports Championships.
This unique contest enables those currently serving in the Royal Navy, Army and RAF to develop their self-discipline, courage and physical fitness. It helps them to recuperate and bond outside of their operational commitments. And some go on to represent Great Britain in winter sports competitions.

During a two-week ski camp, organised by the Army Winter Sports Association (AWSA), soldiers receive world-class tuition from Ecole du Ski Francais instructors, some of whom are former world champion telemarkers. The experience of participating “complements a well-rounded soldier in today’s Army. From the esprit de corps of the team to the courage and nerve needed to throw yourself down the Stade.
